The Experiential & Transformative Qualities of Exercise: Sculptures of Joy

Camilla Pagh Jespersen

The Experiential & Transformative Qualities of Exercise: Sculptures of Joy is a project which takes its departure in my own interest in exercise and how that has affected my life in multiple facets. The project consists of two main parts. First, an autoethnographic investigation into my exercise regime, which is documented through a journal and a number of water colour paintings, with the purpose of diving deeper into and reflecting more carefully on my experience with exercise. Through the course of writing the journal and making the paintings, I have reached a very simple conclusion. It simply makes me a happier person. This brings me to the second part of the project, which is in the format of an instruction artwork titled Sculptures of Joy. Through this instruction you are encouraged to contribute to the project through a peak into the activities that brings you joy in life, or at least to reflect upon by yourself and then do whatever you want with. By sharing your contribution, you will transform yourself into a sculpture of joy and become a part of a collection of digital sculptures on a public Pinterest page, and hence a collection of activities that has brought joy into someone’s life.
